CRISPR unlocked: From gene editing basics to applications in disease modelling and drug development.

This course introduces participants to the concept of CRISPR genome editing, emphasizing its potential in disease modelling and drug discovery.  

Participants will explore the biological principles of CRISPR genome editing, explore advanced CRISPR tools, critically evaluate the application possibilities of CRISPR genome editing in disease modelling and drug discovery, and engage in experimental design, ethical discussions and data interpretation. 

The course combines two on-site learning days with interactive workshops, online webinars and assignments, offering participants flexibility while maintaining a practical focus. The programme concludes with a final assignment based on a real-world case. Designed for professionals in the pharmaceutical industry, it also provides opportunities to collaborate and network with PhD students from the Graduate School of Medical Sciences (UMCG).

Professionals from the pharmaceutical industry interested in learning the fundamental principles and applications of CRISPR gene editing in drug discovery and disease modelling.

Participants will collaborate with PhD students affiliated with the Graduate School of Medical Sciences (UMCG), fostering both knowledge exchange and networking opportunities.

This is a post-HBO/WO level course. Participants should have a basic understanding on human genetics. A pre-course questionnaire will be sent to all participants to check on alignment with the course requirements.

All live sessions are mandatory to obtain the course certificate/credits. In case one session is missed, ECTS are not given.

January-February 2027. Onsite days: Thursday 21st January and 11th February 2027.

Participants who successfully complete the module will be awarded a Proof of Concept certificate.
